The Plight of Indian Farmers:

Ever wondered, why someone who owns acres of land back in his village, opt for a slum dwelling in a Metro or even taking such a drastic step like suicide?

The main reason behind the plight of Indian farmers is that there is no one to represent them. All our politicians and bureaucrats have lost there touch from the rural India. I remember one instance of our president addressing the parliament last year. She was referring to then souring prices of farm produce and convincing the house that due to this our farmers are getting benefited. Now find the facts from one illustration from below:

Around 25 years ago, the cost to produce one kg of potato was around 70 paise and farmers used to get Rs.2 to Rs.2.5/kg. In retail it was available for around Rs.5/kg.

Today, the cost to produce one kg of potato is Rs.2.5/kg. The farmers are still getting RS. 2 to Rs.2.5/kg. In retail, it is available for around Rs. 10 to 15/kg.

Now, who is always making money- The greedy middle men. Our faulty policies and corrupt system are encouraging this. For other farm produces, scenario is not much different. I challenge you, go and ask the question “What it takes to produce and what the farmer gets” to any politician or any bureaucrats from agriculture ministry, you will be thoroughly disappointed.

You can understand what the options left to farmers in current scenario and this is the reason we are here today, where China used to be in 1980. All the educated people from rural India, who could have influenced the policy making, have been migrated to cities.

My point of view for a better scenario:

1. Abolish all type of subsidies, since it contributes to corruption and hardly addresses the issues, it is meant for.

2. Allocate proper fund for world class storage facilities for perishable farm produces across the country.

3. There should be insurance facility for all type of farming.

4. Effective and transparent public distribution system so that difference between farmer’s selling price and end user’s purchasing price should not be more than 100%.

5. The state should guarantee a minimum purchase price for each farm produce taking into consideration of cost to produce.

6. The money saved from abolishment of subsidies, could be used for this purpose.

7. Heavy investment and encouragement from state for modern farming techniques, machinery and research work.

In era of such a staggering corruption and extravaganza like lakhs of crores just for games, the above demand from farm sector can be well justified.

Hope better future for farm sector!

All India Monthly Sales Meet-May

Very recently our Ex- Business Head re-joined the company and this news itself had set many things in order, which had gone hey wire in recent past.

I was leaving Nagpur by a previous late night flight. At airport itself, I came to know about 2hrs delay in departure. But this did not upset me much, since this was hardly going to eat out one hour from my sleep. I had brought dinner packed from home. I gobbled up four parathas and thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary lemonade provided by the airlines due to late departure, while watching India and Australia T20 world match at Airport. People were making no reaction while watching the match. Also Australians outplayed in each department of the game. I reached Hotel in Delhi at 2am. As usual, I was sharing the room with my motor mouth friend and colleague.

The sales world is full of fake people with fake emotions and expressions. My colleagues tried to outperform each other in showing fake emotions towards our BH and NSM on their rejoining. I felt a bit sorry, since they deserve the real one. The whole team collectively placed order for sweets, snacks and cold drinks worth Rs.4000/- for celebrations.

We reviewed the past few months and re-decided the agendas. Finally we had one to one session with our business head regarding our increments. As expected, I was informed about my transfer and probable promotion. I was already prepared for it, in-fact, I was looking for it. I hope, this will be more fulfilling and promising for me. The happiest things is that I am going to reunite with my brother and we all will have more family experience with seven members living together.

Life Management

Consecutively second day also, I missed my morning exercise routine. This is a clear indication of imbalance between both part of mind. As we know right part of mind is responsible for knowledge, feelings, love, etc. while left part is all responsible for logic, courage etc. Right part of mind sends the signal of getting up early and go for exercise while simultaneously left part sends signal for postponing or skipping. So, to become a successful person in life, balance between both is must. By doing regular pranayams one can maintain the perfect balance between both. I decided to add pranayams in my daily exercise routine.

I have seen many people making time tables about activities, which completions are dependent on so many external factors. Suppose, you have decided to meet some person between 1 to 1:30. Now, you do not have control over traffic and availability of that person.

You can not do anything with time and so, there is nothing called “Time Management”.

It is all about self management and life management. Balance among all domains of life is must. You must allocate time and pay attention towards everything e.g. health, family, society, career, spirituality etc. To have a realization of being fulfilled, achievement in all domains of life is must.

Travel Log

The beauty of traveling by train is you get an unique opportunity to mingle with persons from different domain and culture. Though now a day the younger generation is over occupied with their cell phones and other gadgets. They do not prefer to take a break even while traveling from them. Similar is the case with over stress executives working in private sector. But people, who are in their late sixties and above, always look for an opportunity to start the conversation with their fellow passengers. Similar is the case with relaxed government sector employees. Today while settling down on my allotted birth, I found an old man in a very friendly conversation with a middle aged person. Later on, I discovered that the old man was a retired Raw officer and the middle aged person was a second generation successful entrepreneur. Both were well educated and widely traveled around the world. The old man was looking at least ten years younger than his actual age of 72. On contrary, his wife was in a bad shape and suffering from abnormal heart beats and diabetes. The middle aged man shared his experience about best quality of Russian minerals and chemicals. The old recalled about dry fruits of Iran. After a long discussions of similar and topics related to current affairs, the middle aged person asked about secret of his fitness. He gave credit to his disciplined lifestyle and yoga. The middle aged person turned to old lady and asked why she not join him in these activities. He kept on insisting and suggesting that she must join him during morning walk and yoga session. After a lot of insistence, the old lady finally broke out and we came to know about a tragedy they went through before eight years. They had two sons, elder one settled in London and other in Hyderabad. Eight years ago the elder son came to India for getting married. On very next day the couple left for a hill station. While on honeymoon, one day the girl slipped and fell into a river. The boy, who did not know swimming, jumped to save the girl. The girl was saved but only dead body of the boy could be recovered after one day. The old lady was a very good painter and her paintings had fetched lakhs of rupees during many art exhibitions. The lady was reduced to ashes after this tragedy. She left everything. She did not even come out from her house for next four years. With tears filled in her eyes, in breaking voice, she told how terrible she experienced, when her younger brother one day forced her to come out and have a little walk in nearby garden.

The old man was looking toward different direction with dry and stable eyes. Life is like that. You do not know what destiny has decided for you. You create you world with utmost care and hard work. Suddenly something happens, about which, you have not even imagined and you found yourself totally destroyed. The old lady was so scared about being happy that she did not celebrate the birth of her grandson. She told that her husband keeps himself busy with lot of work. But memories of her son still haunt her. She feels his presence all over.

I found the old man very caring and a true companion. After the tragedy he realized the gravity of the situation. He must have realized his responsibility towards his better half. He started yoga and long morning walks, so that he become fit enough to take care of her wife for remaining life period.

This is the winner attitude. You should not let any destiny’s play to destroy your world completely. You should stand up with stronger determinations, so that you could save the remainings and built even a better world. After all you are assigned so many roles in this world and you have to perform well in all. If some roles are taken back from you, you are still supposed to perform well in remaining ones.

ASM MEET

I had come down to Delhi for my monthly all India sales meet with dejection and compulsion. This state of mind was due to some recent happenings which made all the field staff hopeless. The hotel was fairly good but as always, it was very difficult for me to spend almost half of the day sitting idle in hotel room. I found the food menu very exorbitant so decided to have some light food and mineral water from outside considering the newly reduced daily allowance. But, I did not forget to take a good bath in swanky bath tub of hotel. I chose a rode side vendor for my mid day meal and spent almost 100 bucks. After having a quick nap, I decided to do some telephonic follow-ups and daily routine computer work to make myself free for late night BC party of ASM’s.

During the party, I realized that others were in more horrible conditions and it was expressive that all are in search of new jobs and just waiting for the right decision. Except me, since I have suspended the decision for few more months and presently I have devoted myself towards family affairs and personal fitness.

I came to know about one new thing- my colleagues think that I do not bother about what going around and keep concentrating about my work. Also, I am harmless to all, since I do not engage in petty politics at all. The truth is- I bother a lot like others but I can not compromise with the responsibilities I have been given towards organization’s goal. It is just not in my blood.
